Editor’s Note

When Zen Master Dezong became a monk, he was less than 20 years old, and he had been practicing meditation for only 26 years. However, he was able to understand the profound meaning of Buddhism and the truth of the universe and life. This was all due to the manifestation of his wisdom in previous lives, the maturity of his compassionate wishes over many lifetimes, and his courage and diligence in this life.

On June 23, 2551, Zen Master Dezong took over as the second patriarch of Faxing Baolin. This was a major event for the Buddhist community (spreading the light of Buddhism and continuing the Buddha's wisdom).

Following the instructions of Master Lin, the notes of Zen Master De Zong, who stayed in retreat at the Baolin Hermitage, the headquarters of the Buddhist order, from June 17, 2546 to June 15, 2549, in order to seek enlightenment and teach others, and to fulfill his aspirations for many lifetimes, were compiled and published.

However, due to the large number of chapters, it is impossible to publish them in a single volume, so it is planned to be published in four or five volumes. This book is the first volume, which collects the Dharma words of the first year of the Zen master's retreat (Buddhist era 2545).

I hope that the Dharma words in this book can bring endless coolness and peace to all sentient beings in the ten directions and three times, and guide them on a correct and bright path in life.
